Embarrassment

Goober Congressman Lee Terry, Jr. (not to be confused with bitter-sounding right-wing nut-job Lee Terry, Sr.) must know he's about to lose an election.

Why else would he be saturating the airwaves with ads accusing challenger Jim Esch of being everything except a sex-offender? And why else would he be trying to latch onto Barack Obama's coattails?

More interesting would be an ad explaining why Terry's running for his umpteenth term when he originally promised to term-limit himself to eight six years.

Actually, he signed a pledge to only run for 2 terms, and that is 4 years, as congressional terms are only 2 years.

Sorry, I thought the pledge was a more generous 4 terms. That makes his hypocrisy even more egregious and enbiggens his lie.

Cogitor said...

Enbiggens? How about enlargens?

Not to defend him by any stretch, but the problem is greater than Lee Terry. The problem is that new hires to the House -- Senate, too, pretty much -- can't really do jack. The good-old-boy network is way too tough to crack, and THAT'S the real crime. And frankly, I'm not sure anyone can get anything done in a few terms there, because you have to jerk off the old guard for so long before you get any pull (pardon the pun) with which to accomplish anything.

That said, I'm not in favor of bringing up one past DWI when it appears as if there isn't an ongoing problem, but seriously, what the hell has Jim Esch done? He's practically a trust-fund baby. You've got to be prepared to put in some hours in D.C., even if it is fisting the committee chairman so you can climb up one step on the food chain. WIll he do that? There's no evidence to support the contention that he'd have a particularly stellar Congressional career either.

What the hell has Lee Terry done, other than run for Congress and then run for re-election?

Neither Terry nor Esch is all that great. I just hate Terry's self-righteous, hypocritical yammering. He's all for term limits until they apply to him, then we're just supposed to forget what he said originally.

Bullshit.

Please get rid of Lee Terry for one reason only: His voice!

Holy good night Mary Ellen Ryan and all the saints in Ireland how I can't stand his voice.

He always sounds like he actually has a very high pitched Peter Brady squeaking voice and is trying to make himself sound more manly by forcing his voice into a low booming husky kind of thing.

Lee Terry's term limits pledge was originally for only 3 2 year terms (6 years). He broke that pledge. That alone should be reason to vote against him. The guy has done absolutely god damn nothing. Like the past commercials against him said--his only bill passed was to rename a post office. So what the hell IS he DOING????? He has NOT taken the INITIATIVE for Nebraskans and is NO kind of LEADER.

His old man is an even bigger preposterous nut case. I know more Republicans who hate Lee Terry and his worthless Dad (alcoholic???) than Democrats!

The sex-offender ads are slated to roll out tonight, no doubt.

I think the point is that there isn't much of a choice. At least Lee's voted with the tax payer about 90% of the time, so while he may not be helping out a hell of a lot, at least he's not hurting you. Esch doesn't even know how to work, so who knows if he'll show up to vote on more than half of the initiatives.

Well said, Ted! What HAS Lee Terry done...? Apparently he is sequestered to the same bunker that houses DICK (Note caps)Cheney until an election year rolls around. This is, after all, about the only time we ever see him. Esch, while not a favorite, should certainly be given a try, as he certainly can't do much worse than Terry.

I love Terry's spot about his energy plan. Hey Lee haven't you been in congress since you turned 18. If you had a plan why are you waiting until an election year to roll it out? Oh probably because nobody else in DC cares who you are or listens to you.

What does Esch do? Lee Terry called Esch a "trust-fund" kid. (Like Lee Terry isn't?--his daddy got him a lot of things!)

Cogitor said...

Did anyone read the comparisons in the local paper or voting guides? Esch says we should increase spending for everything under the Sun, but he's got no plan for doing it nor apparently the realization that doing that costs money. Why? He doesn't really have to work for it. He doesn't understand where it comes from to the depth that the rest of us do. He doesn't DO anything.

I actually knew Lee back in school, and even though I'm not enamored with his work in Congress, he's a known neutral versus Esch who's vague wish list would undoubtedly cost you and I a bundle. And nebraska, I'll have to be honest here, Lee didn't grow up in the lap of luxury by ANY stretch of the imagination. Sure, as a member of Congress he's probably getting set up pretty well now, but to say "his daddy got him a lot of things" as if he was fed from a trust fund is just conjecture that illustrates you making shit up to support your position. If you don't know the truth, say so...don't invent stuff.

Terry was middle-class, and Sr. didn't give him any more than the rest of us got from our folks, and as basic middle-classers, it certainly wasn't silver spoons. Come on. Rail the guy on his bland record if you want, but keep to something you know and don't add to all the BS out there.

Cogitor;

Let's see now---My late father was into antique cars. Lee Terry SR and Jr belonged to the antique car club my dad was a part of for ages. Both my late dad and I knew (know for me) one of Lee Terry's teachers for the last 35 years! Plus, I have encountered Lee Terry Sr around town for years since the 1970's. I am mid 40's age wise. So, my family and I have had many encounters with the Terry's over the last 35 years. I know many Republicans who are the FIRST to say Terry's dad got him lots of things. I am as skeptical as anyone else regarding gossip. However, these are all first person sources. I hate Esch and Paris Hilton like silver-spoons like him. I went to Catholic schools all of my life including an expensive out-of-state college, so I am, unfortunately, very familiar with spoiled brats,, trust-fund kids and students who don't know how to work. Worse, these kids are getting first crack at corporate jobs because their parents know somebody, not because they're smart or "qualified". Of course, Lee Terry Jr and Sr are racking up Wall Street-like "bonuses" due to their political "friends."

God love the stupidity of WOWT.

Their headline at this very moment:

"Barrack Obama makes history"

Somebody should let WOWT know that the guy we just elected as the 44th President of the United States only has one "R" in his first name.

Nebraska,

Accepted. You've actually had some interaction with the guy. You can't blame me for making that assumption, since so many people online vent by invention, but like many assumptions, it was apparently flawed. My apologies.

I guess it depends on our definition of "lots of things", which would depend on our economic backgrounds. Lots of things to me must be different, and I was raised dead-center middle-class.

So I'll cop that you probably know about as much as I do about the guy, but I would couch that a little by saying that knowing a teacher and "many Republicans" who purport to know a lot about Sr.'s gifting habits is not so much first-hand.

The point is kind of moot, at least for a few years. I have to admit I'm glad Esch doesn't "get a try" as someone here wished, simply because all his positions revolved around increasing spending, and there's only one way to achieve that. But I also hope Lee gets into the fray and makes more of a difference, now that he's been there long enough to garner a little pull.

As usual; Nebraska missed the boat voting strictly Republican once again. Keep shooting yourselves in the foot...flyover state here we go again...

I was told by REPUBLICANS over the last several years that Lee Terry had DWI's when younger. Any truth to that??????
