Spilling

Add spelling to the list of things they can't do right at Channel Sux.

A new blood drive promo starring "Daybreak" dimwits Jimmy Thiedlecki and Malorie Maddox flashes a graphic urging viewers to help "replinish" blood supplies.

Perhaps they spelled phonetically, using Malorie's pronunciation as their guide.

Have you SEEN the crawl on Channel 7's "weather now"? This morning the word "peopling" showed up...that's not even a word, and if it was, they weren't using correctly. That thing is fodder for grammar and spelling police.

Channel 7 mistyped items Friday during the post-storm coverage. In example, the Willie Nelson concert "scheduled for this tonight..." and the Omaha Royals game was canceled "and will has be scheduled..." All of them do it. it is a sad fact of life in the age of no copy editing.

The problem is that there are some extremely uneducated or lazy individuals in control of the copy that is put out over the air, and evidence can be found on all four of the local stations on almost a daily basis.

But Channel Six is the self-proclaimed News Leader. The wooden John Knicely even crowed in one promo last year that that's "not just a tag line." Things like not being able to spell make their smugness that much more unbearable.

No argument against the awful product on 6. They are so far removed from the days of Gary Kerr. You can tell they have a small budget, because a lot of the reporters act like they could work for KPTM. We all know how sucky that channel is.

And I do think it is really bad to run a pre-taped promo (that you would hope would be done with some preparation and a little common double-checking) with that kind of mistake.

And I have noticed, that if it weren't for viewers contacting their station with whatever particular gripe they have (usually involving a neighbor with a dirty back yard pool) they would be without approximately 65% of their news items.
