Replacementplex

KETVNewswatchseven'sJulie Cornell finally announced what's been widely known for months: she's vacating her anchor position at the end of July and being replaced by Brandi Peterson

The complete announcement is here.

While many have speculated that Cornell is being "Schradered"—shown the door for reasons of age, in the same way that Cornell's legendary predecessor, Carol Schrader, was forced out in 1997—word has it that the move really was Cornell's idea.

It's hard to imagine that a station just now starting to best SuxNews on a regular basis would make such a change on its own.

Although I don't like what happened to Carol Schrader (I loved Carol Schrader, grew up watching Carol Schrader, Godspeed Carol Schrader!!), I wouldn't blame it on Julie Cornell. If it wasn't her taking Carol's position, it would have been somebody else.

And I grew to like Julie Cornell. I won't forget one moment I saw after that Westroads shooting. Julie Cornell was on the phone with some girl who was still inside the mall and, I assume, called into the station. And yeah, Julie was trying to be a reporter and get the information. But near the end of the conversation, I wish I could remember the exact words but Julie said something to this girl (who was still understandably a little shaken up) like "Take care, Hon" or "Be safe, Hon". Or something along those lines. But it was simple and sweet and genuine.

I read Julie Cornell's statement and it sounds pretty sincere to me. If she were being pushed out the door, I can't believe she'd go to such lengths to compliment management. Like, when she said: "Channel 7 is filled with dedicated, creative people. Our managers don't cut corners". Boom. That really sums up KETV for me in contrast to other local stations.

I just hope KETV doesn't do a ridiculously long and drawn-out retirement retrospective in a superficial ploy to get ratings (Like WOWT did when whats-her-face left). But that just doesn't seem like their style.

I read Cornell's statement @ KETV.com...

She says:
"...Before I write a story, I sit down with the video and pour over pictures and sound..."

POUR, PORE
You pour sauces, gravies, etc, over your dinner, while pore means to study something--I hope she didn't damage something with an unnamed liquid substance!

LOL. An unnamed liquid substance. That was good! Just because it gave this hilarious visual in my head:

"My Coffee!! All over Wednesday's Child!"

By the way. I'm sure the old wheels are turning over at WOWT as we speak. Trying to use this to their advantage. My money is on a whole host of new TV ads touting "Omaha's Most Tenured News Team".

No scratch that. They'd have to look up tenure. Something like "Omaha's News Team That Has Sat Together Longest!"

dumb anquish she isn't retiring just cutting back.

Well that's true. She did say she would still be contributing. Sometimes you hear that and you never see those people again. But I take them at their word.

But, like I said, even if she was full blown retiring, I couldn't see KETV being as utterly shameless as WOWT was when Pat Persaud left.

Hopefully, Brandi will be able to get somebody to mow her yard, and her dad won't have to do it.

If WOWT did that, they'd be taking a page out of KETV's playbook. If you don't remember, KETV ran such ads right after Tracy Madden took over the lead female anchor spot at WOWT.
