What Does This Say About Their Readers?

If you thought you were depressed about local news quality, you'll be even more so when you see who The Reader's readers chose for the paper's "Best of the Big O" awards:

Best Weatherperson: Jim Flowers (WOWT)
Best Television Reporter: Mike McKnight (WOWT)
Best Sportscaster: Dave Webber (WOWT)
Best News Anchor Team: WOWT
Best Anchorperson: John Knicely (WOWT)

On the bright side, however, at least Travis Justice and Fubar Fazal aren't on the list. Yet.

It's too early for April fools right?

I have to say I agree with the Dave Webber pick. Just because the guy rocks! He's been doing the sports on that channel for as long as I can remember. Remember him and his lucky corn cob when the Huskers won their first National Championship in twenty-some years? He'll always be my favorite.

As for the rest of the choices, all I can say is...For shame!!

You're right mg, Dave Webber is the best sports guy around. Hell, he's the best personality around. He certainly does pull the rest of the Channel Six news team out of many "moments of awkward silence" at the end of the newscsasts.

I don't know about you guys but I've been digging Carrie Stowell on KMTV!

Huh????? Webs is the best sports guy around???? At least share with the rest of us what you guys are smoking. The man is a buffoon who has zero sports knowledge. He may be a nice guy, but all he is is a talking head.

As for that stupid corncob...the way he was fawning over that thing that night, I don't even want to think where it ended up when he got back to his lonely hotel room...

Is it just me, or does Dave Webber give the vibe that he is not in any way interested in what the anchors have to say to him? Maybe he'd rather be trying to manipulate that hot dog through his hockey mask before the big Mav game starts.

Those are the staff's choices. The actual readers who voted are listed below those. And none are for WOWT...

It says that they don't have that much to choose from! :(

Instead of "best", it maybe should read "least worst" or "most marginally tolerable" or something like that.

Let's face it, no current news production in the Omaha market is an example of excellence. :( But I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir here. :(

Oh well ...

I agree with the omahababe. Its not that they are good, its that they are good for Omaha standards.

If anybody doubts this, whenever you're visiting another market, even a smaller one, pay attention to the local news if you can. You'll find that 9 times out of 8 you will notice the difference.

Or, if you have cable, watch the WGN local news, far more professional and polished, and I don't regard it to be one of the best in the country, but still far ahead of any Omaha newscast.

And, for the newsies listening in, sorry if this isn't what you want to hear, but it's the way things are. :(

Thank YOU for putting a corn cob/Dave Webber visual in my head. Wow.

Amen and thank God for Kerri Stowell. She is articulate, attractive, and not ANNOYING. Keep up the good work Kerri. I hope you stick around, but I'll bet that there will be something better for you than Omaha. You would think that she would raise the bar, but the Old Guard at Sux will sick their whole news team on her just to drag it down again.

Hey, I voted Rachel Pierce as Best Mutton-head!

How is Travis Justice and Fubar in the same category? Wow, you may not like Trav, but ouch, Fubar? C'mon.

I always cry a weddings. Sniff.

The pairing of the Trav and Fubar units would assuredly be the news story of the year. Perhaps the decade!!!!!

And, what lovely adorable mini-humans would result from the co-mingling of their genetic codes!!!!

Sniff.

I cry just at the thought of it all.

Y'all be nice to my buddy Trav. He seems to be a decent chap even with that tribble-like growth upon his chinny chin chin.

Why did you take the image of John Knicely..er I mean Ron Burgundy off the blog page. It suited the flavor of the blog. I LOVE SCOTCH! I LOVE SCHOTCH....SCHOTCHY SCOTCH SCHOTCH!! HEAR IT GOES DOWN...DOWN INTO MY BELLY MMMM MMMM MMMM! THE HUMAN TORCH WAS DENIED A BANK LOAN! I'll bet Knicely has many leather-bound books and his house smells of rich mahogany.
