A Lunatic Vents

From the Annals of Stupidity, we offer this little morsel, submitted by a seemingly not-so-bright reader:

I stumbled onto this blog and I think this type of bashing is outrageous. Because of you (mr. or ms. blogger) I think congress ought to pass laws to get you prosecuted. These people that you write about, their rights need to be protected. Theres no law against lying, but you lie to defame someone falsely, in which case it's slander or libel. But this doesn't curtail a right to free speech. This is criminal speech. This type of speech denies someone else of their right. A right to a fair trial is denied through perjury. A right to law and order is denied through incitement to riot. A right to your good name is denied with slander or libel.

Hmm. Our reactions:

(1) Are we the only ones who see the irony in the fact that this person didn't sign his or her real name to the comment?
(2) Are we the only ones who see the similarities between this post, rants by The Tool on Z-92's Todd 'n' Tyler show, and an installment of the mercifully defunct "For What It's Worth"?
(3) As George F. Will has been heard to ask, at what point did there become a right to go through life without ever being offended by anything?
(4) How does offering opinions on particular programs, stories, or personalities constitute libel?
(5) Who the hell is "on trial"?
(6) How low is this dork's IQ?

Unless your blog starts talking it won't be Slander, and how is it Libel if you say a person is not good at their job, and it's the truth?
God forbid anyone be able to share an opinion these days.

Even if Todd/Tyler or Buford T. Justice wrote it or didn't, the mere insinuation that one of them did made my night. Of course Bufort (or a fellow TV media-type) sent you that e-mail. Who else honestly cares that much??? Good for you Mr. Brockman, keep it up! Local news is much like a Nascar race...the only reason we watch is for the spectacular wrecks.

If I remember correctly, Todd N' Tyler used to make fun of some local news media personalities. Particularly channel 6. I also remember them venting on the air one morning about how upset they were when Jim Minge was let go (or quit?) the World Herald. Remember his weekly "Broadcast News" articles? I miss Jim Minge's articles. Anyway I doubt that the email that Mr. Brockman got was from either Todd or Tyler. Travis? Maybe. It could have come from Pat Persaud too.

If this is considered "libel or slander" then every person that writes into the re(public)an pulse in the Omaha World-Herald ought to be sued as well.

If you don't like this blog then by all means, don't read it. No one is forcing you to read it. And if you can't handle the criticism, start a blog of your own to counter it.

I feel that the majority of people reading this blog do so in order to find out what is transpiring in the local television industry. They are concerned news viewers that just want the best and are frustrated that for the past few years we have been offered nothing but happy crap chat.

It's a way to get our opinions out there and perhaps make a difference. Is anyone at any of the local stations listening other than Action 3?

Sounds like some kind of diatribe from Fubar!

Tom Becca is bashing on this blog right now. Hilarious! He's calling everyone that posts under a fake name cowards. It's okay though, because I'm probably the only one listening.

Tom Becka is in the same league as The Tool: Annoying Voice, opinions on everything, expert on nothing.

I would think T N' T have better things to write about this blog, although it is good for them to kill some time in the morning. I love getting on this blog and jostling back and forth, but the reality is this blog is a cult hit that makes for good conversation both on other programs (I heard Kevin Kugler on ESPN the Radio say he was Ted in the opening segment of today's show) and around the water cooler. For as many times as people have came after T N' T with legal accusations, I'm sure they realize this blog is harmless. Whether you like them or not, they are the #1 rated show in the area.

Everyone I know in local TV news has stopped reading this blog. This blog takes me back to high school, where the geeks at the Dungeons and Dragons table in the corner of the lunchroom made fun of the athletes and cheerleaders from afar. And like those nerds, Ted has shut off the actual journalists from joining the fun at the geek table by his censorship known as "moderation". The racist and sexist nature of Ted's writing is disgusting. It's ufortunate that Becka and TnT even respond to this garbage...sort of like shooting the disgusting signs of the Kansas protestors at military funerals.

So, journalism101, were you an athlete or a cheerleader?

journalism101-
Those of us who get this blog realize its all in fun. The best part of it is the people who get so damn uptight. It's widely known if you've read back through my posts (which I'm sure are all quality...yeah right) that I'm a TnT/Trav all-but apologist, but I also come back because the banter is FUNNY. I may not agree with a lot, but so what. It makes me laugh. Maybe I'm missing the point, but some people need to lighten up. The media doesn't read this blog? 1) Then why do I hear more about it ever day, and 2) Who cares? I probably wouldn't read one about my profession either. So Ted lost a couple hundred people (I'm counting staff, trying to justify journalism's argument). Big frickin' deal. Ted reads comments cause some people are morons. He's obviously pretty liberal about it because he let your crap in.

At least that's what it sounds like whenever you post.

"Everyone I know in local TV news has stopped reading this blog."

And yet you keep coming back. You are a douche bag. That high school enough for you bitch tits?

Journalism101, you ignorant slut. Your posting indicates that you perceive yourself to be superior to everyone who posts a comment here. This could be no further from the truth. To be sure, let us examine YOUR post.

Everybody you know in TV news has stopped admitting they read this blog. It's highly doubtful that they stopped reading. They want to know what is thought of them, and their competition. It's human nature.

You seem to think the nerds shut off the athletes and cheerleaders from the fun of geekdom. Uh, it was always the other way around in school, no cool factor was awarded to the geeks in the corner by the athletes and cheerleaders. And likewise, the jocks and cheerleaders in TV news would like to shut off this crowd of geeks. Things that are said here have been said all around town for decades. The net just provides a wider area for these conversations, and public visibility. If I sent my views to the news departments in town, I would get a form letter for a response and my letter put in the nearest circular file on the floor.

I sent an email to Ted suggesting moderation a while back when there was one of those attempts to “out” him. (Don't know if it was my suggestion or not that caused it, but you can send hate mail to toozy1@gmail.com). Now we can post without any of the horse shit the media types were up to instead of doing their jobs, or trying to do their jobs better. I'm sure if some TV people posted reasoned responses, they would get through. (I would in fact welcome a post from, say Jim Flowers saying “the drinking game is made possible by the fact I've been on the air for 25 years around here, and I know what clicks for my audience. I can only say something so many different ways, and have my favorite catch phrases. Thanks for the input.”) Hell, he let YOUR post through.

Also, I have posted replies actually defending some of the local media Ted hates (Brummer & Deyo come to mind (and isn't it rumored you are Deyo?)), and smeared some of his favorites (think Brandi, I was an escapee from the News for Kids TV Show, Peterson). You see hate & bigotry, I see an exchange of viewpoints. This brings up an important point, Nobody On TV News Is Above Being Criticized. See it this way: If you go to the fast food joint, and the kid at the window screws up your order, you have a right to seek redress and then go blab about it to anyone that will listen. Well, the people in front of the camera (and their bosses) are screwing up my order. I'm blabbing about it HERE!

Finally, I listen to TnT all the time. Never to Becka (I don't want to double his audience). They'll talk about anything to fill time, even this blog, that's their job.

Just my two cents, oh, and 500 words.

I find it hilarious when people start involving the Constitution in everything with which they disagree -- I'm still looking for the "right to a good name" in the Bill of Rights.

My only beef with Ted is this: You are obviously a talented writer...I enjoy your writing style and liken it to that of one of my other favorite columnists, Bill Simmons of ESPN.com, Page 2. It's a shame it has to be wasted on negativity 90% of the time.

If your agenda wasn't so hateful, you could blow this pop stand known as Omaha, hit the big time, and never have to be subjected to Fubar, Larry "Bud", Brummer or any of them again...

Well gosh, if a 500 word post (OK, essay, but damn, it only takes 10-15 minutes for my barely passed high school brain (pot, alcohol, 60's cars, Foghat, Kiss, Heart, and a much more Utopian society, actually) to come up with a post) will get a masters degree these days; no wonder everybody coming out of college can't spell, form a coherent sentence, or be professional and authoritative in front of a camera. And everybody probably thinks that 75 word run on sentence is OK to boot! I better go back, get a bachelors and a masters, maybe a doctorate. Hell, put me up there with Albert Einstein, Stephen Hawking, and the guy who invented Tang! YEAH, BABY!

I am really tired of hearing about people being offended by opinion and criticism. When did anybody ever guarantee that all comments spoken or written would be of a positive nature? It is that so-called "Politically Correct" banter that is most offensive. The old saying "If you can't say something nice about somebody, than keep it to yourself" is an interesting philosophy, but the real world is full of positive and negative. It is the balance created by the two that allows us to to think for ourselves and make our own decisions. While I may not agree with another persons opinion, as a true American I strongly feel that it is imperative that everyone have the right to have and express their opinion, as long as it is presented as opinion and not fact. The news media would do well to try to focus on being impartial when they report stories. Too many times they offer "opinion" as fact. If there is anyone who should be sued it should be media outlets that serve up their views instead of the facts. That is truly offensive.
