KETV, KXVO Prepare to Unveil New Programs

Sean Weide's column in this week's Reader is brimming with TV info, especially regarding the impending launches of news programming in Channels 7 and 15. Highlights:

• According to Weide, KXVO's "10 O'Clock News" will debut, as scheduled, next Monday. As mentioned several times here, the program will be anchored by KPTM's Calvert Collins; Weide adds that Jo Giles, another KPTM-er will anchor on the weekends. We can hardly wait to see this.

• KETV is adding newscasts to its weekend lineup. An early morning program has been known to be in the works for some time now. Weide reports that "First News" will air from 7-8:30 a.m. but that station management has yet to name anchors or reporters for the new offering. That doesn't seem like a good sign, especially with the debut scheduled for January 28th.

• In addition to "First News," Channel 7 will produce Saturday and Sunday 'casts at 11 a.m.

• In a departure from its recent practice of hiring beauty pageant winners, KETV, according to Weide, has finally hired replacements for Reggie Kumar and Tricia Meuret. The hiring of Farrah Fazal and Owen Lei suggests that station management is committed to both diversity and quality. Fazal comes from St. Louis, where her work was nominated for a regional Emmy, and Lei is a Northwestern University grad who arrives in Omaha from a station in Palm Springs, California.

Is KMTV ever going to hire a replacement for Sarah Walters?

I find it odd that someone would leave St. Louis (bigger city) & Palm Springs (weather and maybe a bigger city) for Omaha. Am I being to harsh on Omaha? I would expect to see someone take the Matt Schick route from Hastings to Omaha.

has anyone seen Renee Ludvik on 7? Wow, she literally sounds like a 5-year old learning how to speak. (The way she says the word "the" is unlike anything I've heard before.) She also appears to be very scared on the air.

Don't want to rip on either .. but the woman from St. Louis was a producer there (not an on air reporter) ... and Palm Springs is a very small market and I've met a lot of Northwestern grads in TV who are dolts. Wait and see on both.

Having roamed the dry dusty back alleys of Palm Springs and the dozens of other hamlets in the area one can tell the demographics of the area quite quickly....

rich old geezers and our bretheren from below the border.

So, if one's target market is Espanol speaking OR tight-puckered crotchety old farts and fartesses, the experience garnered from the Indio Valley may or may not fit the needs of the local lame lethargic laggards blandly broadcasting blatant balderdash.

The debut of the KXVO show should be delicious...
The show is not, by any means, ready to be launched. It's a failure before it even begins.

All the players have been in place the last several weeks for KETV's new weekend shows.

Should they not get the first one right before moving on?

newsperson.....

Renee is one of the many former interns, like Brandi Petersen, that they turn to when they don't want to pay extra for anyone with any real reporting experience.

I have to agree she is AWFUL!! And I love the five year old analogy.

KETV, please, for the sake of my sanity, stop using Renee and maybe try a new intern, anything is better than Renee, maybe a trained monkey.

i agree they need help. i believe she used to produce there, if im not mistaken, and wanted to report but they wouldnt let her. so she went to lincoln's very own 10/11 (aka the better crappy station in town) where they would let her on air. don't know what happened that got her back on air at 7 though. maybe pigs flew.

Renee Ludvik does sound really strange when she talks....like a young, deaf, child or something...she is also pretty sore on the eyes if you ask me.
