But Who Gets It?

An alert reader points us to a story at newsblues.com detailing an email sent out last Friday to employees of Emmis Communications by CEO Jeff Smulyan. Emmis is in the process of selling 16 of its TV outlets, including KMTV here in Omaha.

In the email, Smulyan apologizes for a "difficult year" and announces a "minimum bonus for each TV employee equal (to) three months' salary."

It's not clear if the bonus will go to those at stations being sold by Emmis. We hope the answer is yes, with one exception. We'd prefer to see Emmis send Travis Justice's bonus to viewers as a reparations payment for having subjected us to his pontificating for the past three years.

That is a sweet bonus, what is the record date of employment to get that bonus?

Well, considering KMTV is owned by Journal Broadcasting, I'd say nobody there is getting that bonus.

Journal doesn't own 3 yet. Sale hasn't been finalized, which is why there's some question.

Ted, 3 is owned by Journal as of Monday. It's true too, everyone gets a 3 month bonus as Emmis' "parting gift" Nice station to work for.

Sorry...it hadn't been finalized as of the Smulyan email

Those bonuses were paid for by the consumers.

Ad revenue pays for the broadcasting (duh).

Ad costs are passed along in the costs of goods and services we the people purchase.

I hope those talking head teleprompter readers and others thank us.

Considering the lousy quality of Omaha area broadcasting.......

you're not welcome.

Journal Communications, Inc. JRN today announced that its Journal Broadcast Group has completed the purchase from Emmis Communications Corporation EMMS of the business and assets of FOX affiliate WFTX-TV, FOX4 (Channel 36), Fort Myers/Naples, Florida and ABC affiliate KGUN-TV, Channel 9, Tucson, Arizona. Journal Broadcast Group also acquired certain assets of CBS affiliate KMTV, Channel 3, Omaha, Nebraska and will begin programming KMTV under a local marketing agreement. The purchase price for the three stations was $235,000,000, subject to certain adjustments. "With this acquisition, we now have radio and television combinations in Milwaukee, Tucson, Omaha and Boise. These cross-media platforms allow us to build brands faster, which, in turn, drives ratings and ultimately increases revenue on our stations. Additionally, Journal Broadcast Group announced that Steve Wexler, senior vice-president of television and radio operations, will also become general manager of KMTV in Omaha. Wexler, based in Omaha, now serves as market manager of Journal's Omaha radio stations and oversees radio and television operations in Wichita, Tulsa, Tucson and Springfield, Missouri.

The bonus sounds great and all, but understand that the reason they are providing this bonus is because the current talent usually gets shitcanned by new ownership.
