Hansen Sacked by KPTM

Fox42/KPTM is said to have canned anchor/reporter Dave Hansen today. A source there says he has been barred from the building. No word yet on why, but at KPTM, logic and reason seem to play a very small role in hiring and firing decisions. Or anything else that goes on there, for that matter.

Word on the street was that Dave wasn't very well liked by his co-workers at KPTM. For me, it was so difficult to look at his ugly mug sitting next to the fair Amanda Mueller. Dave had a great face for radio, so maybe he'll end up on some WKRP-like station giving the hog reports.

Not liked by his co-workers and he gets fired.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Very Interesting.

Steve Pederson isnt liked by just about anyone and he still has a job!

Hanson was overall a great reporter. Difficult at times, maybe- but in this business, who isn't?
He dug in deep to stories, almost becoming obssessed and came out with an informative conclusion. Unfortunately that was part of his demise.

Joe: Perhaps the reasons why he wasn't liked by his co-workers were the reasons why he was fired.

One-timer: A great reporter? I think not. C'mon, he was average, which does put him in the upper tier in this town.

What a stupid, stupid mistake on KPTM's part. That station sounded like a mere cable station before Hansen arrived. I LOVED his live shots and his way of 'telling a story'. The only thing he's guilty of is caring enough to get the story out & the facts right--while watching some of co-workers just wait for the news release instead.
How frustrating.

BTW-Dave was very well liked by the professionals at the station and hated by the incompetent people.

I'm now sticking to KETV.

What a bummer. I liked him - like an amiable father figure. Of course I am not privy to the entire story; I only know what I see and what you guys tell me! Getting fired from KPTM - ouch, that hurts. I wonder if they have a young stud in the wings.

Maybe they're just making room for the return of Travia!

now Dave Hansen can concentrate on his other full time job, playing the part of Peter Griffith on Fox's Family Guy

KPTM seems to be hell bent on not just getting worse, but spiraling straight into the ground. They've hired two main reporters straight out of college with no experience, driven out a solid reporter that was one of the last threads holding things together, moved a producer who was underperforming in that job to, of all things, the Executive Producer. To top it all off, you add the hiring of a weekend producer not just with no previous producing experience, but no experience in broadcast journalism whatsoever! What's next, hiring garbagemen to shoot video? There are some high school dropouts looking for work, maybe they can run the station's website! I can't wait to see what decisions are coming with the ill-fated WB news. I'd hate to be the unsuspecting suckers lured into that gig.

How do all of you people know so quickly. That is just crazy how the news gets around so quickly. What was the reason he got canned. I heard it was because of some shit he pulled on the weekend.

i simply cannot hold my tongue any longer...
i read in a previous post (quite awhile ago) that tvsheila had NEVER worked in news... strange how tvsheila "knows" hansen was liked by the professionals at the station and hated by the incompetents (insiders at kptm will know, the alleged "professionals" are a lapdog and a pizza fiend) by the way hansen... er, "tvsheila", it's good to hear from you.
now, let's talk turkey here... dave hansen did have some great attributes... he was more passionate about news than perhaps any reporter in the market... he lived and breathed it... sadly, that alone does not a good reporter make... hansen's critical flaw was that he did not care one lick about the people he was reporting on... he seemed to lack conscience... (kptm-ers' minds are filled to the brim with bizarre stories of hansen's insensitivity, his rude behavior and his apparent thirst for witnessing tragedy... sick, sick, sick)... beyond that, and the reason for his dismissal... hansen thought nothing of compromising a police investigation... he did it on more than one occassion... hansen simply felt that rules did not apply to him... ethics were not a priority... not even an afterthought...
yes, hansen is a great news digger... he is also dangerous to have on the airwaves... that is my humble, yet informed, opinion.

Whew!! Calm down-you're gonna have a heart attack!!

First off-you seem to think I'm Dave Hansen (my husband thought that was funny) and yes, I have worked in TV news-just now on the radio side of it.

You, however, sound like you know Hansen. I still have my TV contacts in town and hear Dave is intense about his work, but is fun and joins his co-works out after work.

The 'compromising a police investigation' line was a bit out of line. I work with these officers and they seem to like Dave. It sounds like maybe Dave beat a jealous competitor to a story...

dave, dave, dave... er, i mean, sheila, sheila, sheila... you are on planet earth right? just fyi... the "compromising a police investigation" thing wasn't out of line... it was right on the money... just ask the omaha police pio... and as for hansen being well-liked by officers... umm, well let's just say (and this isn't conjecture, it's fact)... more than one officer from more than one department called on more than one occassion saying that they would never work with hansen again... way to burn a bridge there, Scoop!

Never saw the guy.
Isn't the news at 9 just tossed out there as a substitute for cable news for those without cable by choice or economics? Who in their right mind would watch such a low ball operation when they could watch the Cartoon Network instead?
Excuse my cyber-french, but:
KPTM is teh suck!

He looked like Rich Little, only puffier.

He was pure sex on that newscast.

He'll be missed by two or three.

I'm waiting to see what "Ashcan Andy" they pull out of the janitor's closet to replace him with. Here are the criteria:

1. Must work for $5.75/hr. $.10/hr. raise after positive bi-annually review.

2. Must bring own make-up.

3. Must have some facial deficiency; lazy eye, bad mole, tooth issue, etc.

4. Must lick the Pappas family photo whenever you enter and exit the building.

5. Must not have any experience with journalism.
