And Taylor Makes Two

If KPTM's promos are any indication, anchor Taylor Wilson is also outta there. The new ones feature Dave Hansen, J.J. Davis (we think), and Tracy Jacim. And if Pappas Telecasting knows anything about "synergy," it'll buy up every seller of revolving doors in Omaha. Do people who work at 42 (aside from departing uber-vet Matt Meyer) even bother to unpack when they get here?

It's sad to see people treated as shabbily as they are at that company. As we've probably ranted before, Pappas landed the license to start KPTM back in the mid-80's for considerably less than it would've paid for an existing station. Rather than plow some of the profits back into the station and into serving the community via its news operation, 42's owners have cut every imaginable corner, consistently outfitting the station with third-rate equipment, underpaying its talent, and tossing personnel out as soon as their contracts were up, all in an effort to squeeze every last dime out of an entity that it is supposed to be operating "in the public interest."

What a crock. On paper, deregulation makes great sense. KPTM is what it looks like in practice. If ever there were an operation that cried out for regulation and/or unionization, Fox 42 is it.

Saw a Wilson promo last night. Not that it means anything. They often run outdated promos at 42.

The shake up may be nearing an end. Once Taylor is gone, that leaves the janitor for a complete turnover. AND maybe the News Director if he doesn't get numbers out of all this.

News director is already out! Happened this morning. The shake-up continues. Film at ten.

hey brockman, are you sure you never worked at kptm? you speak for everyone who has. the recent and celebrated departure of the news director is one small victory for the people in that newsroom, but nothing will change in the long haul. pap ass does not care about his people, he just cares about how much green he has stuffed in his pockets. the best thing to do with that station is to burn it down and start over with new ownership.

"in the public intrest" I didn't realize that was the prusuit of the news company's Or else newspapers and the like would be totally free. We don't actually pay for the newcasts, but those ads sure pay for em.

KPTM may have a chance to improve by going towards main stream and adding a second news cast. Its to repetious to have a hour news cast all week on a FOX station. How about a half hour, 11 am or 4:30 if not before prime time.

If you recall the early days of KPTM, they had early morning and noon newscasts, that still rank as some of the worst in the history of tv news. One morning, and I can't recall the name of the early morning news bimbo de'jour, they spent almost a full half hour covering her going home for the holidays. But cheer up. No matter who they fire, they still have room for stunning weather women like Elizabeth Merriman (cough cough).

Re: Elizabeth--I had occasion to meet her at a severe WX conference in Lincoln in March--she is an order of magnitude better looking in person. And she comes across better knowledge-wise in person as well. She's saddled with the Pappas makeup department, Fashions By Goodwill, etc.

You must be kidding, right? Elizabeth Merriman smarter and more attractive in person? Try laser surgery, bud. I've have the unfortunate experience of having to work with her and "smart" and "attractive" were not words to pop into my mind. Bring back Kristen Allred ... Heck, bring by Wysocki for that matter.
