Hansen On the Job

Contrary to a rumor that surfaced on our comments board, KPTM's Dave Hansen was not suspended over his story this week on internet porn. A source at Channel 42 characterizes the report as "not true."

Hell, when you have FOX in your station's name, porn stories usually mean a promotion, don't they?

Well I guess the rumor was just a rumor. However,if the package was pretty graphic without getting the ok from the boss if that is true he should just count his lucky stars no one has reported anything to the FCC since they are so uptight about stuff like that. So anyone who works at Fox or familar with the station... did the story go unaproved and unblurred?

I'm glad he didn't get suspended. The newscasts here could benefit from people not playing it safe all the time. As for the story not being 'blurred'-I didn't see any nudity at all, just alot of graphic website titles. The two guys interviewed about sex addiction were really good and I thought it was an important story about how a 'harmless' little practice about watching internet porn can take over your life and hurt your family. A nice diversion from the usual 'fluff' pieces that we see on the news here in Omaha...

I kind of wish that I had seen the story. I caught the "this is what you missed by not watching our newscast" commercial advertising this story during the 10:30PM Everybody Loves Raymond. If they really want me to watch, they should tell me what I'll see on the next evening's newscast instead - something to, potentially, look forward to.

A friend alerted me to this story, which he thought was ridiculous, and directed me to the website to read the story. I can only hope that what was broadcasted was better produced (and edited) than what made it to the web. Wrought with spelling errors and improper "grammar," the web story was hard to take seriuosly. I found myself, several times, wondering "what exactly are they trying to convey?"

I honsetly don't know what is more annoying between the useless "you already missed it" teaser advertising or the less than top-notch interpreation posted on the station's website for you to read if you should happen to miss the broadcast.

Magnus-you spelled 'seriously', 'honestly' and 'interpretation' wrong...

I think the difference here is that the people on TV are being paid to churn out a professional product, whereas the rest of us—Magnus included—aren't.

Yea, your right. Sorry 'bout that. Didn't mean to take a shot.

I've heard Hansen has been suspended in the past. Not sure for what although I believe it was for fighting with someone out on a story. And I've heard the police are not so happy with him. A source tells me he's crossed crime tape at scenes a few times.
I saw the porn piece. I though the words, "ASS" and "SLUTS" were a bit much.
He seems like he's had some experience in reported and I guess I feel like someone so experienced should maybe know better than to put certain things on tv. It was a good piece but there are ways to do a good hard news piece without the graphic stuff. It's impossible not to offend everyone but since fox is so poorly rated maybe they should try not to piss people off so much.
But no one is perfect.

Actually, he's won a few Emmys for his reporting in Minneapolis and 1st & 2nd place AP awards here a few months back. Also, he was KPTM's March employee of the month so the guy can't be all bad...

That's great. I didn't say he was a bad reporter. But winning awards doesn't make you a nice person. I'm sure there's a way to work and hard and be good to people. And why did he come from a bigger and better city for news to a smaller one is he's so successful.

Yea, I guess.I have no idea why anyone would leave a bigger market to come to Omaha...

Sometimes you leave a bigger market for love.
Cheesey to say, but it's sometimes necessary if you want to continue a relationship. I would certainly do it again!
