Which of These Doesn't Belong?

OK, what's going on at Fox42? Is this some kind of sick joke? We've watched new anchor Tracy Jacim several times, always thinking we'd figure out why she ended up at the station that quality forgot. Jacim seems knowledgeable, personable, and prepared. In other words, she seems to possess all the traits that usually disqualify people from working at KPTM. It's a perplexing situation, but one that Channel 42 viewers should appreciate while it lasts.

I should check her out, but it's hard to get past 42's crappy video and tinny sound.

Actually, I used to watch it when Grace Polanski was there. She was very good and I'm glad she made it out of that bargain basement low wattage sinkhole of a tv station.

I'm sorry, did you say Ch. 42 viewers?

Okay, What's with the constant Ch. 42 bashing? I've only been in Omaha a few months (from Chicago-a city with the BEST anchors!)and find 42 warmer than the stiff anchor team on WOWT! It's also much better than KM3. Not to mention, they seem to break stories first. Things I don't like on 42: the weekend weather girl (don't know her name) is horrible-but there really isn't a decent wx person in the market. And their set could use an update. Otherwise, it's petty good. I like the new anchor (Tracy) and the guy she did the newscast with last night. They had great chemistry.

I agree with sheila. I moved here about a year ago and I think channel 7 and 42 have the best two newscasts in the market. And I've lived in Dallas, Oklahoma City, and New Orleans...all much bigger cities with quality newscasts. You've got to remember, fancy graphics and all the bells and whistles don't always mean a good or even decent newscast. Channel 3 and 6 come to mind there.

Yeah, well I used to live in Phoenix and Miami - two very large markets and I think Ch 42 is UNBEARABLE and the rest of the stations do not fall far behind... as a matter of fact they're not much better than the fresh-out-of-college news teams you find in Central & Western Nebraska. Ugh. Spare me. No wonder I never know what's going on locally with these sad excuses for newscasts. Why don't they just dig up Mel Mains (sp?) and put him back to work? It might be more fresh than the current offerings.

Chickmick makes a decent point, but kind of short sighted. Just because a city is larger, doesn't mean there are better newscasts. If you take a trip out to LA, you'll be shocked at just how god-awful those newscasts are, and those are all run by the networks. But I still think 7 and 42 have better newscasts than 6 and 3.

Actually, the point I was trying to make is that it doesn't matter where you go you're going to run into good and bad of everything. Unfortunately, it seems the Omaha news market weighs a little heavier on the bad side than the good. And truthfully, is it fair to compare cities? Probably not. We should still seek excellence in whatever we do. If all the news teams in LA or NY or Chicago jumped off a cliff should Omaha news teams do so as well? Maybe that's not such a bad idea... :)

Is Tracy married? She's a very talented woman...

If memory serves, Sean Weide mentioned in a recent column that she is married to a director or producer for another station (KETV, perhaps?).
