One element that appears to be missing from the Omaha World-Herald is a column devoted to coverage of local broadcast media. Oh sure, from time to time, we'll get an occasional story regarding ratings or this or that personnel move, but that coverage is sporadic at best. The paper's policy seems to be this: If we just ignore this "TV" fad, it'll go away, and people will go back to getting their news the way the good Lord intended--on paper. (It's somewhat like their hope (eventually abandoned) that by ignoring the name of the convention center, it would cease to exist.)
What we're hoping to provide here is an as-needed update of what's going on, both on the air and behind the scenes. When the action is limited, we'll try to provide some depth--a viewer's-eye critique of local programming, a Q&A with a local broadcasting bigshot...who knows.
While we'll try to be kind, there are no guarantees. If we don't call 'em like we see 'em, what's the point of doing this at all?
